Welcome to SJIS

Welcome to SJIS

Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems (SJIS) is the journal of the IRIS Association, which is the Scandinavian chapter of the Association for Information Systems.

The IRIS (Information Systems Research in Scandinavia) Association is a non-profit organization aiming to promote research and research education in the use, development, and management of information systems in Scandinavia, and making that research known in the international research community and among practitioners.
The IRIS Association has as its major purpose to develop and maintain the following:
  • The Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems
  • The IRIS conference

SJIS publishes research on development and use of information systems and related organizational and societal issues.
The journal publishes two issues per year, comprising regular research papers, reflection notes, and special issues. All papers are available in the free SJIS archive.

The reflection notes consist of an invited  essay authored by one or more senior scholars, and a number of invited response papers from key researchers within the focused area. As an example, the reflection notes in issue 28(2) focused on the smart machine.

The special issues are edited by a team of guest editors based on submission of a special issue proposal to the coordinating editor (see submission guidelines). The special issues cover important and timely topics within the scope of the journal. Examples of recent SJIS special issues include:

  • Distributed participatory design
  • Genre theory in IS
  • Development and use of web-based information systems
  • Scandinavian Researcher Career Retrospectives
  • Rejuvenating Enterprise Systems
  • Sustainable Development Goals in IS Research

SJIS is now an official AIS journal
The Association for Information Systems (AIS) is happy to announce that Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems (SJIS) has received the status of an Official Journal of AIS. Articles published in SJIS are now available for download, search and indexing at our e-library. We welcome the journal to our growing publication family of official AIS journals. The journal is published by the IRIS association (Information Systems Research in Scandinavia Association) - the Scandinavian Chapter of AIS. The journal has been operational since 1989 and has thus a more than 20-year history of publishing information systems research, which is a respectable achievement. The journal aims at publishing critical, yet constructive, studies of IT development and use. The journal acknowledges and encourages the highly interdisciplinary nature of such studies. Topics include, but are not restricted to: organizational politics of IT; micro-studies of actual use; diffusion and uptake of IT; use and development of e-commerce; open source development; transformations of leisure and work following, for instance, mobile technologies; strategic and structural transformations of business organizations and sectors; software development methods and strategies; and the life on the net. The Journal draws on the rich and well established "Scandinavian" research tradition emphasizing engagement with the field, participation from users and multi-vocality of interests. As this kind of scholarly work is not confined by geographical boundaries the term "Scandinavian" in the title should be interpreted metaphorically rather than literally as an ambition to foster this tradition. Therefore the journal is open to submissions all over the world that address these topics and engage in a critical discourse with studies informed by Scandinavian tradition.
